Here are some tips to get you started:
* Read some posts before you start posting (aka "lurk"). It's a great way to get a feel for the board and also you might find some answers to questions you have!
* You can't change your username so choose wisely. Avoid putting your full name (especially last name) or e-mail address as your username. Remember this is a public forum and anyone can read anything that we post. If you have any of these in your current username, create a new account before you start posting. This will save you the trouble later.
* Introduce yourself! Whether you're a newbie or a longtime lurker, please post and tell us about yourself and fiance. We'd love to know your wedding details!
* Don't ask for opinions unless you want the truth. Many posters can get put off by hearing that other people don't like their ideas. The general consensus is that it's better to hear from a bunch of strangers that it's a bad idea than from your own friends and family.
* Vendors are NOT allowed to post on these boards, even if they offer their services for free. Vendors will be banned immediately.
* The more information you can give us when asking a question, the better answers you will receive. Include your budget (if possible), number of guests, general location, etc. since this will help narrow down options for you.

Engagement Story: We were celebrating our 5th anniversary together up at MSU (where we both attended). We were driving through campus on our way to dinner when Todd pulled over and said he wanted to take "a romantic walk." We got out and walked over to Beaumont Tower. Once there, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I don't remember much except for saying "OH MY GOD" a lot. Apparently I also said Yes.

Engagement Story: (Pre story- I showed Chris pictures of rings I liked months before.) We were playing a video game together that he edited to check the settings. After getting frustrated with the lag on my computer, he came over to "look at it". While he was down on one knee he told me he loved me and wanted to be with me for the rest of his life. As he pulled out the ring he asked if I would marry him. With one of the biggest smiles ever on my face I of course said yes. (He had my ring custom made by a friend of a friend jewler)

Engagement Story: The proposal happened in two stages. The first stage was just before Christmas 2008, we were out shopping at the mall, and FI told me he wanted to pick out an engagement ring - so we did. A few weeks later after the ring was fitted, he took me to the place where we met and proposed in the middle of the street where I was standing when we first spotted each other.

He took me to dinner and back to his place to see his new couch and he said he had a surprise for me. There was a bag of new socks on the couch. The ring was in there. He told his grandma his plans (she's elderly and very sick), her response was "i'd love to see that" and as soft-hearted as he is decided to do it at his grandma's house instead 3 days before christmas. *note- John and I ALWAYS do that for every surprise lol, give it early!*

A few minutes before we were ready to go he suggested that we go up to Mt. Soledad, a spot overlooking the ocean and the city that we went to together when he first moved out there. After the sun went down and the other visitors cleared out, he proposed.

Engagement Story: On Christmas Eve (my favorite day) my dad tricked me into going uptown to the gazebo where Paul first told me he loved me (dad said there was a stray dog that needed a home). My dad dropped me off in front of the gazebo that was decorated with Christmas lights and then I saw Paul. I dropped my puppy saving materials and then he got down on one knee (in the snow!) and I don't remember much after that!

Engagement Story: I knew it was coming because we'd been talking about it. So I was on hyper-alert. But he has this idea about the "right way" to propose - that it has to be a surprise. So after I ruined the first 2 attempts by clearly figuring out what he was about to do, he finally threw romance to the wind and went for the ambush approach. When I came out of work one day, he was lying in wait outside the door. *POW* he proposed. I don't think he quite yelled "gotcha," but I think he had a hard time holding it in. What a goof. :) Afterwards, though, he got all romantic and whisked me off for a wonderful dinner and night at a nice hotel.

Favorite Wedding Detail: Um...my shoes. No, the desserts. No, the pinwheels...gah, I can't decide!

Engagement Story: Steve proposed during our trip to Vegas last year at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the strip. I immediately called my sister and screamed "we're getting married!!"...not the best choice in words as she thought we were eloping (being in Vegas and all). FI makes fun of me because I technically never said yes, I just cried and waved my hands in front of my face and nodded yes.

Engagement Story: On our 6th anniversary, we went Elizabeth Park by the marina (where we first met) to have a picnic. I made different types of snack foods and brought plastic "champagne" glasses. Seeing as how I forgot the silverware, we ended up trying to get into the cabin of my dad's boat to find some plastic forks. Luckily it was unlocked (this never happens) and our picnic was brought inside. We reminisced about old times and talked about the first day we met on my dad's boat. It was truly a great time. We ended up taking a walk through the park and he proposed at sunset. We didn't have plans to get married right away, because of our young age and plans for school. We just wanted to take our relationship to the next level, make it official and have a nice, long engagement!
(Anticipated) Wedding Date: June 15, 2013
Favorite Wedding Detail: The grounds of the venue. Beautiful golf course and the ballroom has large windows overlooking all the greenery.
Pets: A mutt named Allie! She's quite the character!
Fun Fact about Yourself: I used to work at Cold Stone Creamery for three years with my FI. From this experience, I also learned how to decorate cakes and now make them on the side for friends and family.

Engagement Story: We flew to his parents' house in S.Dakota for Christmas. After the presents were opened, he looked at a picture of his sister in an ornament on the tree and asked his stepmother if there was a picture of him. She said there was - it was over on the left side, near me. I got up to help him look, and noticed an ornament with what looked like a ring inside. I suspected ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, so I kept looking around. About 10 seconds later, though, it hit me. I asked him "are you serious?" and started crying :) Then he took it off the tree, got down on one knee, and proposed. I did not see it coming what so ever, and I was so shocked and speechless, I just kept repeating "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" And finally nodded yes.
(Anticipated) Wedding Date: It WILL be June 29, 2012
Favorite Wedding Detail: It's in June. My grandparents got married in June and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary

Engagement Story: We were on a cruise in Belize celebrating my 21st birthday and my graduation from the University of Michigan. We have been together for 5.5 years and this was our first vacation. We had an amazing time and we ended it with a proposal. It was the last night and we were alone one of the decks in a hammock watching the sunset. They were playing music and our song came on "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys came on. After it was over he got on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

Engagement Story: We both went down to visit his parents in Florida for a week in February. We decided to go down to the Florida Keys one day and just walk around. I was excited to see Margaritaville. I was hoping that we would see Jimmy Buffet there, missed him about a week. Anyway, we walked the strip and saw a few sights and that night we went to see the sun slowly set into the ocean. As the sun was half way set and a beautiful sailboat sailed in front of us, (I love sailboats), he grabbed me by the waist and told me how much he loved me and that he wanted me to be his wife. It was the most romantic thing that he has ever done. We still have not decided on a ring yet. Hasn't been in the budget. That is one of the reasons why our date is so far out.
Wedding Date: August 24, 2013.
Favorite Wedding Detail: Everything is about the Reception.
Pets: We had 2 Spynx Cats, Laydee and So-So, unfortunately we could not keep them anymore and had to find them a good home. We keep in contact with the couple to see how they are doing. Miss them.

Engagement Story: Our first summer together we took a camping trip to Ludington State Park. Our last day there, we found a spot on the dunes where people had taken pieces of driftwood over the years and built a make-shift shelter of sorts, sat inside and watched the sun set over Lake Michigan. This year, we took a camping trip back there (we decided to make it a yearly event) over 4th of July weekend. The first night it rained and we spent it sitting in the tent. :( On day number 2 it was overcast most of the day but started to clear around dinner time. We walked down the beach and up the dunes to the same little shelter we sat in last time, and as the little bit of sun we had broke free from the clouds over Lake Michigan, he knelt down in front of me (as much as you can in the sand on a slope!) and asked me to marry him.

Engagement Story: He proposed in the Tea Gardens of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island July 22, 2011. It was very sweet and unexpected. I knew he had bought the ring, but I wasn't thinking it was coming for awhile.

Engagement Story: We have been together 6+ years. In April, while on a vacation with my family in Marco Island, FL. Steve (with the help of my dad) got my siblings, mother and myself out to the dock because there were dolphins swimming in the canal. As I was looking one direction for the dolphins I hear my sister say "what the heck is Steve doing right now?!" I turn around and he is on one knee holding the ring... I just about crapped my pants! I was COMPLETELY shocked. My family got some good pictures and just re-telling the story on here makes me all teary eyed (yes I am a nerd!).
